We are now accepting applications for the 2026 Winter Honor Council recruitment cycle. Application Deadline has been extended to February 8th at 11:59 pm. See below for more details.

If you have any questions, please contact our Internal Vice President, Maddy Bezzina (mbezzina@umich.edu), and CC our Public Relations Officers Alessandra Hernandez (alessher@umich.edu) and Blake Deason (deasonb@umich.edu)

Applicants are assesed on their video submission and application, then potentially invited to a second-round interview.

The video submission and written application is asssesed by all members of the council individiually and focuses on your background, values, and perspective. This helps us get to know you as an applicant and understand how you think about topics like academic integrity, responsibility, and ethical decision-making.

The second-round interview is by invitation only and held with the full Honor Council. It is focused exclusively on case scenarios and is meant to assess how you interpret and apply the Honor Code in nuanced, real-world situations.

Applicants are encouraged to reflect on questions ahead of time, but we do not expect or want memorized responses. Please avoid reading from a script or note card. We’re looking for authentic, thoughtful, and concise answers that reflect how you think in the moment. This helps us ensure we can hear from everyone and move through all planned questions in a timely manner

VIDEO SUBMISSION QUESTIONS

  • Why are you interested in joining the Engineering Honor Council?
What perspectives, skills, or qualities would you contribute to our team?

  • You will select two of these questions to answer in the video submission.

What is your perspective on the current state of ethics within the College of Engineering?
In your view, how can the Honor Council contribute to strengthening a culture of academic integrity?

Describe a time when you faced an ethical dilemma.
How did you approach the situation, and what did you learn from it?

What does the Honor Code mean to you?
How does it align with your personal values and your broader understanding of ethics?

  • During the interview, you will be presented with several ethical scenarios that reflect real situations commonly encountered in student cases. While reviewing the Honor Code and exploring our website beforehand may help you feel more prepared, the exact responses will not be listed anywhere.

We are primarily looking for your ability to think critically, explain your reasoning clearly, and demonstrate sound judgment when faced with complex or ambiguous situations. You will not be penalized for being incorrect; instead, we are interested in how you approach challenging decisions thoughtfully and ethically.
